Visit to Santiago Bernabeu stadium (31-03-2018)

The stadium is located at a crossoads like many, among houses and offices. There is not what we call "pre-filtering zone" and there are almost no parking lots: just a few in front and an underground parking next to it. You enter from a side tower, and there is a long queue almost all the long side of the stadium, which however flows quickly: in about ten minutes we are in.

The visit starts from the third deck (out of 4), where there is a first panoramic view: the stadium dates to the '50s, and yet has escalators, unlike many more modern venues, not only in Italy (I also think of the London Olympic Stadium). Then, we go down one level and enter a gallery, with images on the team's history, decade by decade. There are also all the trophies, excluding only the Champions Cups, which are shown later and here are replaced by clay copies. We move on to another gallery, with videos of the greatest Madrid scorers, from Di Stefano to Ronaldo, passing through an Amancio Amaro ('60s) whom I had never heard before.

You go outdoors again: there is a sector of the second ring where you can sit. The stands are almost attached to the field, so to be on the second ring the view is excellent. You go down again: you pass by a room dedicated to Juanito, which reminds me of the sad memories of the 4 Inter-Real clashes of the '80s, all lost. There is also the poster of the 1985-86 UEFA Cup final, where Real played Videoton (Videoton in the final!) after eliminating Inter. Then you can take a picture with the last Champions Lrague trophy: the queue is quite long, and needs to be done even if you do not want the photo (it is certainly not my case).

We go down again: we visit the VIP sector, with boxes equipped with screens. Then there is a room dedicated to Paco Gento and you can take another picture, with a (virtual) player of your choice. However trivial, I choose Ronaldo, also because it is one of the few that I'm sure I would recognize.

You get to the field level: you go through the Real locker room, then you go through the tunnel and you get to the sideline. You can even sit on the bench. Then we go through the guest locker rooms and arrive at the press room. You can sit on the stage and take a picture (by yourself): there is not even such a long queue. Everything beautiful, but passing I can see there is something not very modern: the bathrooms. At the exit the photos are sold: 18 euros each in large format, 13 small. I discover that mine is not with Ronaldo, but with Asensio. Great player, but even after seeing him I'm not sure I would recognize him.

A good example of a modern stadium, even if it is 60 years old: what Italian stadiums, even more recent ones, are not. Well, maybe one comes close, but I have no intention of going there.
